Shiro Cosmetics Color of the Months - Swatches and Review

I'm happy to say that I've finally caught up with all my late blog posts and can now move onto Black Friday orders!  Shiro Cosmetics was having a 15% off Black Friday sale so I took that opportunity to order some past Color of the Months.  Color of the Months are colors that are suggested by fans on Shiro's Facebook page, the color with the most votes is made into an actual eyeshadow that can be bought during that month.

Usually, after the month is over, the color is taken down and the new CotM takes its place.  It turns out that old CotMs can still be bought if the link still works!  I ended up buying three old colors and the famous Nic Cage Raking Leaves on a Brisk October Afternoon.  Nic Cage is still up for sale because it's one of their best-selling shades.  I also ordered a sample of Roadblock and Caitlin included two free samples for me.  I requested Homunculus as a free sample because it's similar to her discontinued color Party Escort.

As per usual, I requested a drawing.  I asked for a drawing of, "Totoro and Gengar in a creepy smile-off.  Boo from Mario should also be in the background being all creepy with his tongue and stuff."  Caitlin definitely did not disappoint as this picture is tres creepy!  Seriously, it unnerves me a little.

Swatches are done under daylight bulb with ELF's Essential Primer (click to enlarge):

Butts

Butts:  satin nude.  I thought I could live without this color, but since I was already getting several CotMs, I figured I might as well add Mal's butt.  It's actually pretty nice, it's understated but I can definitely appreciate it.

Nic Cage Raking Leaves on a Brisk October Afternoon:  dark brown with gold and orange sparkles.  What a mouthful.  This is another color I thought I didn't need and figured why not?  It's a pretty versatile shade and I've used it in my crease.  It's SUPER sparkly though, the swatch does not do it justice at all.  This color is sparkle city!

Yzma's Essence of Llama
Yzma's Essence of Llama swatch
Yzma's Essence of Llama:  velvety plum shadow with cream shimmer.  I was pleasantly surprised with this shade.  It's really pretty and the cream overlay is more apparent in person.  I was very glad to get this color and it glides on so smoothly.

What Does the Fox Say?
What Does the Fox Say? swatch
What Does the Fox Say?:  satin red-orange.  The site description is pretty spot-on, it is a foxy orange.  I wish the label was a picture of a cute cartoon fox instead of the guy in a fox costume though haha.  I was expecting something similar to the Mushroom-Snake-Badger sticker.

Roadblock
Roadblock swatch
Roadblock:  light brown taupe.  The sample baggie is so deceiving!  I was expecting a warm brownish color, and it swatched kind of gray.  I guess the site description is pretty accurate in saying how weird it was that Sudowoodo (previous name) was a Rock-type tree.

Homunculus
Homunculus swatch
Homunculus:  charcoal gray with red sparkles.  I initially stayed away from this color because swatch pictures didn't show the red sparkles.  I fell in love with a discontinued color, Party Escort, and asked Caitlin if there was anything close.  She said this was the closest one but less metallic, which sounds right up my alley.  I can't wait to press this shadow because the glitter becomes more evenly dispersed.

Star-Crossed
Star-Crossed swatch
Star-Crossed:  shimmery blackened copper.  This was my free sample - I assume she sent me this because of how similar it looks to Homunculus.  I'm not complaining though; one of the most exciting things about getting her orders is seeing what random color she thinks I'll like :)

Daylight:  Butts, Nic Cage Raking Leaves on a Brisk October Afternoon, Yzma's Essence of Llama, What Does the Fox Say?, Roadblock, Homunculus, Star-Crossed
Flash:  Butts, Nic Cage Raking Leaves on a Brisk October Afternoon, Yzma's Essence of Llama, What Does the Fox Say?, Roadblock, Homunculus, Star-Crossed
Even though I got a good amount of CotMs, I'm sad that older ones were completely off the market.  I discovered Shiro too late and missed out on Cheshire Cat, Apocalypse, Nestyr, and It's Gonna be May.  Luckily, I found someone on Reddit that was willing to send me some samples of those in exchange for samples of my CotMs.  It's definitely more than I can ask for.  I already have two more Shiro orders on the way - yes, I'll admit I'm addicted.  Stay tuned for my next post on Shiro, which is a buttload of samples!

    1. It definitely is! I love buying from indie companies because you get to communicate with the owners on a more personal level and they'll do weird requests like this :P Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I'm pretty new to Shiro & I definitely can't resist the CotM shadows & I've collected pretty much all of the more recent ones. & right now I can't wait to get 'Up All Night To Get Loki' but like you I wish that I'd known about Shiro earlier so I could've picked up older shades like 'Tears of Retail Employees', 'Cheshire Cat', 'No Oscar for Leo DiCaprio' & 'It's Gonna Be May'. Also I think it's seriously cool that Caitlin does drawing requests she's just so incredible.

  3. I've collected the recent ones too! Even the ones that I'm not completely interested in just for the sake of collecting D: Caitlin is seriously cool, you should shoot her an email and ask if she still has any old CotMs. You might be surprised and it won't hurt to ask :)
