Limnit Lipstick Swatches and Review

I will be swatching and reviewing several Limnit Lipsticks today.  This post has actually been super late, probably the latest I've been, since I made this order during their Black Friday sale :x  It was actually my first order with Limnit even though I've had my eye on them for awhile.  I always held off purchasing because I have way too many lip products already and I have a strong hatred of lip products in jars.  I much prefer lipstick bullets, or anything I can apply straight from the tube - I have long nails, so using my fingers isn't really an option and I don't like using a lip brush.  Anyway, they were having a sale and I figured it'd be a good time to try out some bolder colors.  Apparently I was one of the first 100 orders so I got a free sample, yay!  My order came super quick and I never had to contact the owner with concerns.

Awesome instruction card

I think I requested a drawing of Snoopy and Woodstock building a snowman.  Trina including a cute note on the back :)

Pictures taken in daylight and swatched over bare skin using fingers

Goodness Graycious
Goodness Graycious:  deep, gray toned taupe.  This seems to be the breakout hit from the company and may have spawned the gray lipstick trend.  Goodness Graycious was semi sheer and took a few passes to cover my natural lip color.  A note about Limnit's lipsticks in jars is that they're very hard, so you'll have to warm it up quite a bit to appy easier.  It's been very cold here in NYC so it didn't warm up much.  I believe a lip brush is better for opacity, but if you want a sheer/wearable wash of color, then fingers are the way to go.

Deepest Taupes and Dreams
Deepest Taupes and Dreams:  dark brown with a slight purple tint.  This was creamier than Goodness Graycious but still a bit sheer and took multiple passes to cover my lips.  As you can tell in the lip swatch, it doesn't cover my lips fully when I use my fingers, so I do suggest using a lip brush.

Freestyle
Freestyle:  bright, pigmented teal.  This was my free sample and it's nice Trina included a color I would not have chosen for myself.  This was fun to experiment with, but I'm not brave enough to wear it out yet.

Bewitching Hour
Bewitching Hour:  beautiful pigmented azure.  For some reason, I really love dark blue on me, it didn't look as crazy as I thought it would and I really enjoyed wearing this one.

Abracadabra
Abracadabra:  beautiful grape purple.  Okay, I've applied this with a lip brush before, so it can definitely be built up to a pigmented grape purple color on the lips.  Again, I applied with my finger this time and it was a lot harder to build up.  I'm not really happy with how it looks here, but this method could be used to make Abracadabra more wearable, I guess.

Olly Olly Oxen Free
Olly Olly Oxen Free:  dark magenta.  This one had a moderate opacity and was creamy as well as wearable.  I believe it's also one of the breakout colors and is very popular on /r/IMAM.  To be honest, this was a lot more berry than I expected oxblood to be, but is still a pretty color.

Daylight:  Goodness Graycious, Deepest Taupes and Dreams, Freestyle, Bewitching Hour, Abracadabra, Olly Olly Oxen Free

So I found Limnit's lipstick to be pretty versatile.  You can go bold and apply it opaquely with a lip brush or sheer it out with a finger application.  The shop certainly carries some unconventional colors, but somehow they all look more wearable because they're muted versions of said colors.  I don't find the formula to be drying or moisturizing, but if your lips were not properly moisturized before application, these lipsticks will keep them that way and it'll feel drier throughout the day.  They are very long-lasting, so I do suggest applying a lip balm underneath even if it does shorten their wear-time.  I know they recently just had another sale, so most of the colors are out of stock, but definitely look into them periodically if you're interested in these.  I'll be keeping an eye out for when the bullet lipsticks come out, but for now, these jars have a ton of product so I doubt I'll use them up by then!

  1. Hm, these all look extremely patchy on your lips. Do you think that is just because of your application method, or something in the formula?

    1. It's definitely because I used my fingers instead of a lip brush. I've used these with a lip brush before and it's more opaque and even, but finger application would make it a bit more sheer and wearable. Wearing it with a balm underneath may also cause patchiness, so if you're worried about that, I'd skip the balm altogether.
