Dawn Eyes Cosmetics New Year's 2017 - A Feast for the Eyes Swatches

I'm so excited to finally show swatches of Dawn Eyes Cosmetics' newest collection!  It's a New Year's collection inspired by various food and beverages.  As a self proclaimed foodie, this appealed to me a lot and really gave the names some meaning.  Dawn Eyes doesn't have a turnaround time stated, but they generally ship out within one or two business days.  Due to a family emergency, my order shipped out a few days late and I was notified (and apologized to) via email by the owner, Dawn about the delay.

Pictures taken under LED bulb and swatched over ELF Glitter Primer (top/left half) and ELF Essential Primer (bottom/right half)

Sparkling Lemonade
Sparkling Lemonade:  bright yellow with gold sparkles.  Now I'm not one for yellows at all, but this one was just so unique in my collection and I'm really excited to use it in a look!

Cherry Cordial
Cherry Cordial:  lavender with pink sparkles

Fresh Salad
Fresh Salad:  grass green with gold sparkles and blue shimmers

Blueberry Muffin
Blueberry Muffin:  gray purple with pink sparkles and gold shimmers.  This shade is a bit sheer over regular primer, so I strongly recommend using a sticky base.  I used this in a look recently (over a sticky base) and absolutely loved it!

Coconut Soup
Coconut Soup:  greige with silver sparkles.  This one is also a really unique color in my collection and I don't think I have anything quite like it!

Toffee
Toffee:  beautiful sandy khaki with red and gold shimmers.  I don't know how many times I can say unique in one post, but I'm pretty sure I don't have a similar shade to this one in my collection as well ^^;

Sparkling Lemonade, Cherry Cordial, Fresh Salad, Blueberry Muffin, Coconut Soup, Toffee

Sweet Persimmon
Sweet Persimmon:  red orange with gold and red shimmers

Blood Orange
Blood Orange:  reddened antique gold with blue sparkles.  This shadow has a beautiful satin finish.

Tea Cookie
Tea Cookie:  bronze with gold sparkles

Creamy Caramel
Creamy Caramel:  dark taupe with green, gold, and red shimmers

Hot Coffee
Hot Coffee:  dark red brown with red sparkles and gold shimmers

Black Olive Green Olive
Black Olive Green Olive:  purple brown with gold and red shimmers

Sweet Persimmon, Blood Orange, Tea Cookie, Creamy Caramel, Hot Coffee, Black Olive Green Olive

Plum Blue
Plum Blue:  matte eggplant with blue sparkles

Grape Wine
Grape Wine:  semi loose purple with gold sparkles and blue and red shimmers.  Now this one was a bit unusual.  I'm relatively sure that this is Dawn Eyes' first semi loose shadow and the only one in this collection.  As with all semi loose shadows, it sticks onto itself a lot more and doesn't require a sticky base for full opacity.  This may be better applied with a finger than a brush, though I haven't tried this on my eyes yet.

Pumpernickel
Pumpernickel:  beautiful blackened red

Creep
Creep:  chartreuse with gold sparkles

Orange Chrome
Orange Chrome:  orange with gold sheen

Star Dancer
Star Dancer:  icy silver with gold, red, and green shimmers

Plum Blue, Grape Wine, Pumpernickel, Creep, Orange Chrome, Star Dancer

This collection came as quite a surprise to me.  You'll see in the group swatches that the first half contain some pops of Spring like color and the latter half is a lot more warm toned.  Obviously I'm not miffed by it as I love Dawn Eyes' eyeshadow formula and will jump at the chance for more browns because I use them a lot more often.  This collection also has the debut of their very first semi loose shadow and it really took me by surprise!  It has a great texture and great formula as you can tell from the swatch.  I can't wait to wear it out and test the wear time.  Dawn Eyes eyeshadows are some of my most used in my personal collection because I pressed all of my samples and they're convenient to grab in rushed mornings.

I hope DEC will continue to release many beautiful collections in the near future.  I'm already itching for the next theme!

  2. Hi! Thanks for the review and swatches. I regularly look at your Dawn Eyes swatches - i have wanted to order from her since I first heard of her at xmas time, and just got my first order thru - 51 samples! I was just wondering - what do you mean by pressed your samples? Im sorry if this is a really silly question! How many uses do you find you get from a sample? I absolutely love mine so far. I can't wait for the site relaunch to see what's in store!

    1. Hi, I'm so sorry for responding so late! I press my shadow samples using fractionated coconut oil and isopropyl alcohol into round tins so they're easier for travel. I find loose shadows a bit messier to use and wasteful, so I like pressing them to save space as well.

I have quite a lot of eyeshadows, so I haven't used up a sample yet since I cycle through my makeup a lot. I hope you're enjoying the relaunch!
