Hello Waffle August 2016 Visage - A Midsummer Night's Dream Swatches and Review

Welcome back, everyone!  I'm happy to finally share swatches of Hello Waffle's August 2016 Visage box!  They are currently on hiatus right now but should return in October.  The Visages are still being shipped out and is the only thing offered during the hiatus.  August's box is inspired by the Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.  I'm a huge fan of Shakespeare and this play was one of his whimsical comedies.  This month includes three mini eyeshadows, one Overshadow, one highlighter, and a full sized lipstick from Chirp Cosmetics.

Pictures taken under LED bulb and swatched over ELF Glitter Primer (top/left half) and ELF Essential Primer (bottom/right half)

The Light of the Moon
The Light of the Moon (Overshadow):  blue sparkles with green shimmers

Helena
Helena:  pale lavender with red sparkles and blue shimmers

Love in Idleness
Love in Idleness:  ocean blue with faint gold sheen and green shimmers

King of the Fairies
King of the Fairies:  charcoal with green, gold, and red sparkles

Queen of the Amazons
Queen of the Amazons:  pale pink highlight with a strong green duochrome; swatched heavily on bare skin

Bare lips
The Fairy Queen
The Fairy Queen on face
The Fairy Queen:  pale pink lipstick with frosty gold sheen.  This was a full sized lipstick created by Chirp Cosmetics.  Now, I appreciate having lipstick in tubes, but I have several gripes on the formula.  The consistency was too soft and started to lose shape after one pass on lips.  It deposits too much product on lips if applied straight from the tube and applies in chunks.  The shade is beautiful when swatched on the arm, but it's very frosty and unwearable on the lips.  It's also sheer and patchy enough to show your natural lip color.  I will be giving this lipstick away.

Despite the lipstick formula, the color theme was quite cohesive.  Hello Waffle wanted to create an ethereal look that was heavy on the sparkles and highlight.  I wore this look out as intended and substituted AFK Cosmetics' Earth balm instead.  I think it created a much better look and wasn't as jarring on the lips.

  1. Thank you for the review. I got Queen of the Amazons in a swap recently and wasn't sure if it was finishing powder or highlighter. It can't off on me as a very flat pink. I'm going to try a different brush to see if I can get the duochrome built.

    1. Sorry for the late reply! I think it's supposed to be a very soft and ethereal highlighter. I find highlighters to be very personal, so it's definitely understandable if it's not to your liking. I find certain highlighters to look great on me and others very hard to work with, or invisible on me.
