Notoriously Morbid Daoine Sidhe, Mystic Mattes, and Changelings Swatches and Review!

I have a huge huge HUGE post for you all today!  It's some new products from my favorite indie company, Notoriously Morbid.  They recently released a plethora of exciting lip products including some beautiful liquid matte lipsticks and topcoats.  I also picked up their newest eyeshadow collection, Daoine Sidhe, based on light and dark fairies and will be swatching those first.  Due to the extremely picture heavy nature of this post, I'll skip onto the swatches right now!

Pictures taken under daylight bulb and swatched over ELF Glitter Primer (top/left half) and ELF Essential Primer (bottom/right half)

Head Key
Head Key:  beautiful light pink with gold sparkles.  This was my free sample and a sneak peek of their upcoming summer collection.  This is a very pretty and feminine color.

Daoine Sidhe

This collection is inspired by light and dark fairies and has some beautiful shimmers.  Missing from this collection is a highlighter that was actually renamed and reintroduced from the Game of Thrones inspired Vanishing Cabinet a few months back.  It was so popular that the owners had to make it permanent and include it in this collection.

Changelings

The Changelings are a series of dual ended topcoats meant to go on top of any lipstick you have.  They're a sheer metallic gloss that completely transform any lip product you have.  This is silly of me, but I only recently realized that the topcoats are each named after a mythical creature that can shapeshift, hence the name "Changeling".

Siren
Siren:  metallic blue

Lycan
Lycan:  shimmery silver

Leshy
Leshy:  metallic chartreuse

Kitsune
Kitsune:  metallic pink

Mystic Mattes

The Mystic Mattes are Notoriously Morbid's first foray into liquid matte lipsticks.  They are touted as being fast drying, comfortable, and extremely pigmented.  I haven't had a lot of luck with any matte lipsticks as they are extremely drying on my lips.  My lips also tend to form a white ring on the inner rims after awhile and it's very unsightly.  Both of those reasons made me steer clear of matte lipsticks (liquid and solid) for awhile.  After receiving my package, I tried out several shades and was thoroughly impressed.

The formula was very watery and not thick at all, dried extremely fast (within a few seconds), and was not drying on my lips.  After several hours of wear, my lips felt like how they would normally feel without lip balm, not moisturized, but not particularly dry.  These are not budge or kiss proof, but they are so comfortable that I don't mind reapplying and I'd rather have something that wouldn't require scrubbing my lips to remove.  I did notice the weird white ring developing on the inside of my lips with one shade, but not with some others, so I think it depends.  I can safely say that these are the best matte lipsticks I've tried so far and I can't wait for more shade releases!

Note:  These all dry down to a matte finish, but may have a slight sheen in the pictures because I didn't let them dry down enough before taking the pictures.

Temple
Temple:  mauve pink in tube, light pink on my lips.  I was actually really surprised with how light it went on the lips because of how much darker it looks in the tube and on my arm.  Unfortunately, it's too light for my skin tone, so I'll have to mix it up with another shade to make it wearable for me.

Tarot
Tarot: mauve.  I was really looking forward to this shade because of the gray/greige/taupe lip trend and was surprised at how dark it was on me!  I do like it and will make sure to wear a corresponding eye look the next time I wear it out.

Tarot and Lycan
Tarot and Lycan Changeling:  I patted a very thin layer of Lycan on top of Tarot and it gave the lip color a nice and subtle silver sheen.  It can definitely be layered on for a more dramatic effect, but this was my first time layering a Changeling on top of a lipstick so I wanted to go light.

Sorceress
Sorceress:  magenta with strong blue sheen.  This was the first one I tried out and was so impressed.  It lasted 5-6 hours without fading (without eating, drinking, or kissing) and the blue sheen was prominent.  I always love it when you can actually see the duochrome in duochrome lip colors and I'm so happy this was one of them.

Sacrifice
Sacrifice:  blood red.  Good god this is gorgeous.  I'm in love with this shade and it's such a beautiful red to wear out.  This is my favorite shade as of now.

Sacrifice and Kitsune
Sacrifice and Kitsune:  Like Tarot and Lycan above, I also patted on a very thin layer of Kitsune so it's not as dramatic as the ones you'll see later on.  I'm kind of regretting not putting another layer on because I feel this doesn't do Kitsune justice at all :(

Arcane
Arcane:  mulberry.  This is an extremely dark shade and I probably wouldn't go out with it alone.

Arcane and Siren
Arcane and Siren:  BAM!  I learned from my previous mistakes and put on a bit more Changeling over the lipstick.  This is the resulting shade, an amazing and eye catching blurple.  It's so pretty on its own, but I don't think I have the guts to wear it out yet!

Rune
Rune:  the blackest black that ever blacked.  I'm not well versed in black lipsticks, but this looks super black to me!

Rune and Leshy
Rune and Leshy:  Isn't that pretty?  You'll have to excuse the poor application because I'm patting these on with my fingers to prevent dirtying the doe foot applicators.  I applied a tiny bit less Leshy than I did with Siren above and it still yielded a really dramatic difference.  Leshy is definitely one of the more pigmented Changelings and won't need a thick layer to change your look.

Temple, Tarot, Sorceress, Sacrifice, Arcane, Rune, Siren, Lycan, Leshy, Kitsune

Overall, I was super impressed with the Mystic Mattes.  Like I said before, I never liked matte lipsticks but these were such a huge hit with me.  With its comfortable and pigmented formula, I can see myself wearing these all the time.  I'm so happy I finally found a matte lipstick that didn't make me want to rip my lips off and I'm even happier that my favorite company created it.  There should be more shades releasing in the future, and if the formula stays the same, you can bet I will buy every single one of them :)

  1. Rune and Leshy look amazing together and on you. So unexpected but there's a very regal feel to it.

    1. Haha you're right! The ice blue and pink sparkles are definitely like her. The Changeling top coats are all amazing and I want to try them all over Rune. NM released a new shade called Wendigo recently and I can't wait to see it because it changes color!
